Resource Objects

Overview of Production Resources

The following structure is a top-down view of how production facilities and production resources are related to one another inside APS:

Resource Objects are one of the most basic building blocks of any factory model and encompasses what a Resource is and how they are organized into Departments and ultimately into Plants. Typically Resources are modeled on the different production lines, machines, tools, dies, and even labor assets that is a manufacturer has. They are organized in APS into several different strata.

Resource: A Resource is a capital asset that is available and used to perform work. In this broad definition of a Resource, APS considers any machine, tool, die, mold, or even skilled laborer as a resource. The general rule is that if it is a production asset that requires scheduling, it will be defined as a Resource inside APS.

Departments: A department is generally defined as a group of Resources that are closely related, either in function or in physical proximity to one another on the shop floor.

Plants: A plant is defined as a single production facility or location comprised of one or more Departments.
