Batching

Introduction

Batching in APS is used when multiple, identical jobs can be grouped together and run all at the same time. This means that we can assume that every Job in the Batch has the same number of cycle hours, the same start and the same finish time as all the other Jobs in the batch. Batched Jobs will be represented as a single Activity Block on the Gantt. Hovering over the Batch with the tooltip activated will display a summary of the Jobs that are included in the Batch.

Key Concept

Batching can be done either by Percent or by Volume

Percent: Each Job in the Batch can take a percent of the total Batch quantity. For example, a Batch scheduled by percentage can contain two Jobs that have a Batch Percent of 50% of three Jobs of 33% and so on. So long as the accumulated Jobs do not exceed 100%, they can be grouped together.

Volume: Batch Volume functions similarly, but assigns a specific number to that capacity. Jobs can be Batched together as long as the cumulative required quantity does not exceed the Resource’s Batch Volume.

Note, that if an Activity’s required quantity exceeds the Batch Volume of the Resource, the Job will fail to schedule.
