Suggestions View

The Suggestions view is a programmatically customizable view that helps identify exceptions in the plan that require the user’s attention. There are two default categories that the suggestions will fall under: Jobs Failed to Schedule and Material Problems.

As a programmatically customizable view, however, additional views and suggestions can be created to flag other exceptions and suggest possible solutions.

Jobs Failed To Schedule

  •  Jobs Lacking Resources: This is flagged when a Job has failed to schedule due to one or more Operations lacking Resources to which it could be scheduled. A possible solution will be listed under “Solution”. Typically, checking that the Resources have the proper Capabilities assigned to them will allow the Jobs to schedule correctly.
  • Jobs Past Planning Horizon: This isn’t necessarily an error, since the scheduled Jobs may indeed correctly run past the end of the Planning Horizon. However, for Jobs starting beyond the Planning Horizon, its important to determine whether or not it is because of a lack of available material to schedule that Job.

 Material Problems

  • Making or Buying Too Much:  This view is populated when the final projected quantity of an Item exceeds that Item’s s safety stock. A possible solution would be to make or purchase less of that Item. However, if demand for that particular Item continues to increase, it may also be worthwhile to elevate the safety stock level to match demand.
  • Final Qty Below Safety Stock: This view is populated by Item whenever an Item’s Final Quantity is below its Safety Stock but there is still enough of the item to satisfy incoming demand. The Item will also be highlighted in yellow on the Inventory Plan, which should trigger the planners and schedulers to either make or purchase more of the item in question.
  • Material Shortages: This view is populated by Item when the total demand of the material exceeds its total supply.
  • Unplanned Materials: This view is populated when Operations are scheduled based on lead-time and there is no current planned supply such as a Job or a Purchase Order.
