Operation Splitting Dialog
This dialog is used to “split” an Operation into multiple Activities or to “un-split” an Operation that was already split, thus consolidating its Activities into one. Operations are often split in order to get them done faster. By splitting an Operation into multiple Activities, each Activity can be scheduled in parallel (or at different times) on multiple Resources. The result can be a shorter lead-time for the Operation.
When an Operation is split, the Remaining Finish Quantity of its existing Activity (or Activities if it’s already split) are divided among the Activities that make up the split Operation. The way in which the quantities are divided is determined by the options selected in this dialog. The Activities of an Operation can be run in parallel, in sequence, on the same Resource, or on different Resources. They can essentially be scheduled independent of each other. They all share common Operation Predecessor and Material constraints and all behave as Predecessor constraints to any Successor Operations.
Note that once an Operation is split, the individual Activities need to be reported as finished eventually.
