Introduction
Although APS comes equipped with a lot of ways to automate Production Scheduling, there will never be a time where the algorithms behind Optimization can effectively replace a Scheduler’s years of experience and intuition. For that reason, there are a lot of ways the Scheduler can make manual changes to the system. As a best practice, typically the Scheduler will allow Optimization to suggest a possible schedule before going in to manage exceptions and make small, micro adjustments. Features like Drag-And-Drop, Frozen and Stable Spans, and the ability to manually update and adjust Jobs all allow the Scheduler to focus on the exceptions and increase profitability.
